Carl van Aardt Tribute with TOMB & Karla Valentine
This event is to honor Carl van Aardt, a great supporter and lover of the arts. He, more regularly than most, attended plays and musical performances in and around Cape Town. He was well known and much loved. As a close friend who'll dearly miss him and the inspiration he ignited in my own music, TOMB and Karla Valentine will perform songs he listened to regularly and loved intensely.
The Ozzy Mars Band (T.O.M.B) The Ozzy Mars Band consists of Ozzy Mars on vocals and rhythm guitar and Wiehann Geldenhuys on lead guitar. They have a raw melodic sound, taking their influence from Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, The White Stripes, etc. They have played at various venues including: the Barleycorn Music Club, Meraki, Mercury, The Namless Pub and festivals such as Rofjol in Rooiels.
Karla Valentine has had a love for music from a young age. She started piano and singing at the same time she learned to talk. Her interest grew when she took on the flute at the age of 8. Craving something more at the age of 12 she picked up the guitar and has never turned back.Karla writes deeper, thoughtful melodies in a variety of genres including blues, folk and light folk. She is inspired by a variety of artists; Amy Lee, Anna Nalick, Taylor Momsen, Brent Smith and pretty much anything from classical music to rock and roll. She has played at a variety of venues including the Barleycorn Music Club, The Nameless Pub, Arcade Empire (Pta), Dock in the Bay, The Thirsty Oyster, Sinkshack, Meraki, etc. The two acts embarked on the Toer & Remoer tour in January 2016, playing gigs in Gordon's Bay, Plettenberg Bay, Wilderness and Hermanus.
