From the Monastery to the Marketplace: Mindfulness in the West.
Mindfulness! Thanks to science (all hail), modern enthusiasm for this ancient practice now abounds – but so do ignorance and opportunism. Mindfulness is becoming ubiquitous, but what exactly is it? How does it work? What happened when it moved from the monastery to the marketplace? And what is the sound of one hand clapping, anyway?
We’ve got questions. Mindfulness coach Patrick Madden has answers. Or, at least, even more questions. But he’s been doing mindfulness for a decade so he should do a good job. Come get your mind filled with interesting things and a new, more spacious mode of experience.
Patrick Madden is a mindfulness coach with more than 10 years’ experience of daily practice, including several retreats. Audience Responses
A difficult subject to deal with especially with a combination of interspersed Q&A and information-giving. It might have been a little better to have had more unbroken information-giving time with generous time given to Q&A afterwards as some of the themes got a little lost. Very good balance between information and humour which made for good listening.
