The Game: Shannon's Tongue
Join Frik, Shannon & The Mystery Kid as they face the most devastating test of their lives. 20 years ago Shannon's tongue was taken from him, now it's time to take it back.
The Game was first performed in Cape Town in June of 2009 before travelling to the Grahamstown Festival, where it received the worst review in the history of humankind. "A waste of time and money..', 'I felt embarrassed to be a part of the human race…' and ‘no game, no talent, no storyline’ are just a few snippets from that landmark text.
As with all ground-breaking theatre real opinion was divided. "It was like being on a f*****g roller coaster”, "shock and awe" and “I’ve never seen a group of people laugh this hard” were a few of the impressions gleaned.
That first review went on to form an integral part of the saga of The Game as it has continued to challenge audiences with its unique non-theatrical style.
After two successful runs of the original show, a sequel and a smash hit at the Alexander Bar with The Game: Redemption earlier this year, The Game is back with its newest instalment; Shannon’s Tongue.Audience Responses

Brilliant show. Inane and hilarious. Laughed most of the way through.
Very funny good script excellent acting
It is theatre everyone needs to see. Saying that it is honest is too twee. It is what it is. And you accept it. And then you love it. And then you want to go again.
Because of my defective hearing (coupled with the fact that Adrian had no tongue and the 'priest' was almost inaudible), I didn't understand what was going on. Still, I got a good guffaw here and there! But I am in no position to write a single word of critique, either positive or negative. I have for years regarded Adrian as one of our leading actors and he never disappoints.
Show held audience completely spellbound. Dialogue was real and relevant. Acting was superb. I will highly recommend this show to my friends.
Hard to rate this because I think the audience ruined it. It's described as a comedy and it's really not. It's a drama (quite a disturbing drama) with a bit of humour. Which is fine, but the audience came expecting to laugh, and insisted on doing so even when it was totally inappropriate. It was such a weird experience, having all these people laughing while, for example, a man describes how his father shot himself because he was shamed for being gay. I would have liked the chance to appreciate the piece for what it was, but it ended up being mostly boring and frustrating.
Really enjoyed it. Those guys know what they're doing, and it was a pleasure watching them create something entirely unusual.
Wonderfully strange, oddly poignant, and the funniest thing I've seen all year. I wish I'd seen the others.
