The artistic coupling of the acoustic brass band The Phax Trio and the rhythmic trio Seed breathes life into this collaborative ensemble; presenting their original contemporary world, jazz and brass instrumental music.   The musical and instrumental genetics of Phax and Seed are perfectly suited. Seed is a rhythmic band (drums, bass and guitar) and Phax is a horn section (euphonium/trombone and saxophone). Establishing a solid quintet. The music of Seed is inspired by Avishai Cohen and Anushka Shankar and Phax is inspired by Goran Bregović, Paris Combo and Giora Feidman.   Proboscis will be performing an anthology of arrangements by both bands. Seed brings “Song for my Mother; Resonance; Elephant and Calf; Ants; Proboscis and Phax brings Phax Suite i,ii,iii; Italian Scallion; Persian Tanz; Windigo. All music references the geography and biology of our world and our human ties to it.  Though “Proboscis” refers to Butterflies, this band is more akin to moths and their short life-cycle. After months of rehearsal and gestation the band will only perform for one special week in July before disbanding.

Audience Responses

I thought they were amazing. Not what I had expected but super compelling and engaging nonetheless. So talented!
