After a sold out run Cape Town’s vibrant, new musical theatre company, Mixing Bowl Productions returns to Alexander Bar with No Jazz Hands Allowed. No Jazz Hands Allowed is a concert series, which showcases unkown contemporary musical theatre pieces performed by a cast comprising of Cape Town’s top performers and vocalists. From comical to pensive, the pieces explore contemporary experiences of love, loss, sex (GASP) and more.

'New Musical Theatre' is a fresh, new and underground style of musical theatre, which has been developing in New York for the past 10 years. 'New Musical Theatre' encompasses a wide variety of composers whose works have not been published or produced by commercial producers. It draws on influences of contemporary music such as jazz, rock and pop and infuses the music with extremely intricate and developed narratives, which creates a style which is irresistibly familiar while still thoroughly engaging.

Mixing Bowl Productions is a theatre production company focusing on small-scale alternate musical theatre. Mixing Bowl strives to produce musical theatre, which is cutting edge and pushes the boundaries of traditional musical theatre.

Mixing Bowl Productions’ recent debut at the National Arts Festival, with their new musical theatre production, In-between, was met with high critical acclaim

‘The work of the cast is exceptional. This is a layered, lyrical pieces with strong vocalists who take you on a journey of their experiences.’

- CUE 2015

No Jazz Hands Allowed is a festival, which allows not only Cape Town audiences, but also the performers the opportunity to discover and experience these musical theatre gems.

Fantastic! The performances were incredible and we really enjoyed it. One criticism: I would've liked more context about the shows and songs featured, though.

Loved the show! Having the synopsis on each musical really gave meaning and context to the songs which made them more enjoyable. Found it real and relatable. Would definitely come to another one of Mixing Bowls productions.

We really enjoyed NO JAZZ HANDS ALLOWED. The MC was charismatic, very talented and delightful. The choice of works was very interesting and well-explained without being pedantic. The ensemble was well-prepared. The keyboardist was excellent. The NY accents were very good. The projections were helpful. It was a wonderful choice - for you to present this group in your intimate space. We are theatre producers in Vancouver, Canada who grew up in NYC. We know the material well. Our suggestion to the group is to announce, before the final number, that it IS the final number. Also to have more "arc" by ending with a full ensemble piece. - Wendy & Ron Stuart, WRS Productions

THe performers looked like they were having fun, which was nice. However, the singing was off key and the songs were really bad. I would not recommend this show.
