Last Rounds
It's still 2am. The final bell for last orders has been rung. The Hopeless / Modern Romantic sits in the dark bar, swilling her whiskey, watching the door for him. She’s just a girl, sitting in a bar, waiting for a boy...
Back Upstairs after a sell out season in May, "Last Rounds" is a biting look at love, whiskey, and good music. Written and directed by Tara Notcutt (The Three Little Pigs and ...miskien) and featuring the lovely Rebecca Makin-Taylor (Expectant, The Kingmakers).
"so honest it's raw" - Artsblog "captivating theatre … an intelligent blend of satire and sentiment."
- The Cape Argus ★★★★
"… as truthful as one can be without estranging all friends, family, acquaintances and former lovers."
- Westcape News
"Makin-Taylor portrays the flawed 20-something Modern Romantic to perfection"
- Your LMG
Rebecca graduated in 2011 from UCT, and has appeared in The Verbalists and The Kingmakers, written and directed by Louis Viljoen, and Expectant, written and directed by Penny Youngleson which travelled to Amsterdam and the Market Theatre. Tired of men, and women, asking her to give private narrations of “50 Shades Of Grey” (a book she has yet read) Rebecca quit waitressing and now works as a voice coach and voice artist dubbing Iranian sitcoms and films into English.
Tara graduated from UCT in 2008 and has been working hard, in the dark of many theatres, ever since. She is a multi award-winning director, and has had plays perform on three continents (“...miskien”, “The Three Little Pigs” and “Illusive”). She likes long walks on the beach in the rain, and when she is not working, she can be found shoving R2 coins into the jukebox at the Kimberley Hotel.

Brilliant! One BIG but - the smoking! The theatre is small and I'm sure for both health and safety reasons smoking would not be allowed. I happen to be allergic and was practically gagging/coughing and trying not to..... Sorry, but you need to think this through.
It was amazing the actress is breathtaking...I definitely loved it
Poor, clichéd script, decent delivery but not much, with which to work.
Really really really great show. Well-paced, funny and sad. Also, BEST soundtrack EVER.
Brilliant acting... actually felt sorry for the actress towards end.. lol
She was brilliant! We had a great time. Would see her again, and recommend to friends.
Lovely show. Amazing script. Superb acting.
Another 'theatre of the imagination' like Drive with Me. One readily identifies with the actor's emotions and experiences
excellent acting!
A refreshing story that resonates with kids who grew up in the nineties. Loved the universal theme of heartbreak and the Cape Town essence. The smoking could have been a little less as it is a closed space. Once would have been fine to make the point.
Great!
Very good monologue! Very convincing. I say that because I really felt for her so for me it was convincing!
Great show - to hold an audiences attention like that for 60 mins solo is a huge achievement. Bravo!
She was brilliant! We had a great time. Would see her again, and recommend to friends.
We enjoyed it. The actress was of a younger generation than I was expecting, but she put in a soulful performance and accurately depicted a classic bind which many of us girls can relate to! I thought the play was a clever piece of writing and was impressed to hear the playwright was apparently one of the back stage ladies whom we also met briefly. Well done, girls! and all the best with the run in Grahamstown.
In a word: excellent.
Very good acting, and quite a good story. We plan to attend more shows (this was our second).
Absolutely fantastic! More by Tara!
Great show! Theatre was a little stuffy without the air-conditioning.
didnt enjoy at all somehow thought it would be a tirch singer and didnt find it funny or absorbing in the least lefy early

Very good. Well performed and cleverly scripted, with an unexpected conclusion. Only factor not quite right was the photographs in the press which suggested that it was a two hander. Dr Julian Feinstein.
I really enjoyed it, I just thought the actress was good enough to be able to express emotions such as frustration and derision without as much swearing.
The acting was average and I expected a more mature perspective
Intense, real, engaging.
Fabulous! Tara and Rebecca are super talented women. Go and see anything in which they are involved.
Loved it. Love Rebecca. Love Tara. More of their work please!
