A writer wants to write a play. But what is the point? It will never be Shakespeare. Fabulous Nothing is a ridiculous bittersweet romp through the vast empty brain of a writer struggling to write, as she grapples with the fickle thoughts inside her own head.

Audience Responses

I thought the main actress was excellent and the dialogue per se good, but the play lacked the necessary drama. Too many 'thoughts' for a start - two opposing ones fighting for the upper hand in her mind would have been better. I liked the basic idea but perhaps it needed some external stimuli in the form of current events or personal crises to bring some life and interest into the debate in her mind.

Everyone who has ever written for theatre has written this play at some time and in some form (mine was in my second year of university, a duologue between two sub-Beckettian characters called Nibor and Nalam). I'm surprised that Callum has waited this long to write his. Great cast, every one of them. I love Callum and the last thing I would want to do is discourage him from writing. I'm glad he's got this one out of his system, but I don't think it belongs in a national festival. A student festival, okay; but it's too late for that now.
