Being enlisted in any army is tough, for Pierre it was more. After exceptional performances as Pumba (Lion King), Mr Cellophane (Chicago) and Eddie (Rocky Horror Show), this larger-than-life plaas boy takes you through the highs, lows, horror and humour of being a South African army conscript in the seventies.

Pierre van Heerden graduated in 2001 receiving a diploma in Musical Theatre at The Waterfront Theatre School. Since then he has been involved with some of South Africa’s biggest musicals including ‘Cats’ (SA & International Tour), ‘Chicago’ and ‘The Lion King’(SA, Taiwan, Singapore). Other theatre credits: ‘Grease’, ‘Not The Midnight Mass’ (Fleur du Cap Award), ‘Aspects of Love’, ‘Taraboemdery’, Die Van Aardes Van Grootoor’ and his one man comedy ‘Tune Jy MY?’ He also played on the big screen in ‘Faan se trein’ and KykNet’s famous ‘Proesstraat’. Pierre was most recently seen in The Fugard Theatre’s Production of ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ as Eddie and Dr Scott.

A group of 8 from the Oasis Retirement Resort, Century City thoroughly enjoyed Pierre's presentation and interpretation of a period very relevant to our lives and we had a great time reminiscing among ourselves. Another evening of good entertainment at the Alexander Bar!

I thoroughly enjoyed it, a mixture of realism and history. But I took my son (56) and daughter-in-law (40) along because the subject-matter and the Beatles period resonate with them - he had been sent to Angola twice. For both of them, a first visit to the Alex. They both also enjoyed that. I think if asked, they would give the show 4 stars. They liked the actor, also as a singer of the Beatles' songs.
