BLVD Queen: The crowning of Daphne Tuesday
BLVD Queen is an
intimate solo show performed by Daphne Tuesday. Daphne Tuesday is an
alternative pop singer/ songwriter from Cape Town; her sound consists of
melancholic melodies layered on top of hip- hop beats influenced by
Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine, Drake and The Weekend. Her
lyrical content combined with emotive vocal range talks about her love
for 60's pop culture and the life and times of a 20something year old.
Her writing is influenced by the mystery and general "weirdness" of Coco
Rosie and the beautifully sad and romantic imagery of Lana Del Rey,
Sylvia Plath, Azelia Banks, Ernest Hemmingway and Etta James.
Born and bred in Cape Town, South Africa, Daphne's passion for writing started at a very young age through her mother's encouragement to keep a diary. It was there where her thoughts blossomed into short stories and poetry. She started singing late in her high school career and after
doing her first solo gig at a school concert, she knew that singing was
what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Her dream became more of a reality in University where she got the opportunity to work
with amazing and talented musicians, producers and writers. Through her parents, who worked tirelessly to give her the best education possible and the many people she's been fortunate to work with, she has become the singer/songwriter that she is today. After many tribulations with record labels, Daphne, along with her manager, made a conscious decision to start an independent career, where she can express herself and experiment freely, as an artist, within her craft and incorporate all art forms into her music.
