Blues in the Night - On Broadway
Following their recent sold out success at Suidoosterfees – songstress Louise Howlett returns to the Alexander Bar with a new set of Blues in the Night – this time from Broadway - taking a sultry journey through the 30’s era of Harold Arlen to staples from Legrand and Lloyd Webber to the new era of Jason Robert Brown and Alice Gilham's Calling us Home.
As always she partners with pianist Albert Combrink bringing these songs and stories to life with guest artists Charl Clayton on saxophone and Dylan Tabisher on bass. Surrounded by the men in her life – Louise brings you her Blues in the Night on Broadway for one night only.
Audience Responses
Hi there! Really enjoyed the show but, there were two people in front of us who were videoing the show on their phones until eventually we asked them to stop as this was distracting. Is this allowed????? If not, please announce before shows in future????
Superb musicians & Louise Hewlett magnificent:
Fabulous show by excellent musicians!
Absolutely Fabulous.Di it regularly
Lovely voice, beautiful storyline and the encore songs were the best
The Group was terrific but Louise was sublime. Her voice and presentation were SO good. Albert Combrink too - what a superb musician and arranger. He truly anchors the group. Thank you for presenting the show. Perhaps an encore in a couple of months? One crit: the lighting was dreadful. it was so on and off all the time I thought I was in a sort of disco. Puhlease. Raising and lowering the lights is fine but every 15 seconds, nah!
Very good just a bit loud at times
Enjoyed the chilled mix of songs. Well done to the musicians
Amazing show. Great entertainment.
Dear Nick & ED, One of my sincere regrets is not living in Cape Town or I would be there far more often. I know Stellenbosch is not that far .. Thank you for this venue and the Wonderful Bar and the great buzz you add to Cape Town. Kind Regards Bill van Rensburg
