Stuart Lightbody's Senseless
DLA presents sleight of hand artist Stuart Lightbody in “Senseless”, a playful evening of absurd impossibilities.
Stuart Lightbody has just arrived back from a sold-out run at the Fringe World Festival in Perth and is trying out a bunch of crazy new ideas and stunts, all to raise money for the DLA AfrikaBurn theme camp!
Join us for an immersive experience of wonder that is guaranteed to knock you senseless! Stuart Lightbody is a sleight of hand artist and psychological illusionist who has made it his life's work to engineer elegant moments of playfulness, curiosity and wonder.
Stuart is both a graduate from and lecturer at the College of Magic in Cape Town, South Africa. At the 2005 S.A. Magic Championships he won the Grand Prix Trophy, becoming the South African National Magic Champion. He has represented South Africa at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas in 2005 and at the World Magic Championships in Sweden in 2006.
His theatre shows include “52” (2008), "Sleight of Mind" (2009), "Telling Lies"(2010), "Stuperstition" (2011),"Dark Imaginings" (2012) and “Illusive” (2013). These include five shows presented at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival, the largest arts festival in Africa. His last three shows each won a coveted Standard Bank Ovation Award for excellence at the South African National Arts Festival, making Stuart Lightbody the only performer to have won this honour for 3 consecutive years.
Stuart has taken some of these shows around the world. “Stuperstition” toured to Australia where it was nominated for the Performance Award at the Fringe World Festival in Perth, and won a weekly Best of the Festival Award at Adelaide Fringe Festival. It also toured to Brighton Fringe Festival and Prague Fringe Festival, where it was nominated for the Creative Award.
More recently Stuart was invited to perform “Illusive” at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, and then toured the show the Fringe World Festival in Perth, where it was a sold out success and was nominated for the Artrage Theatre Award.
Stuart Lightbody enjoys a deep fascination for his art, and would love nothing more than to keep sharing it with others.
