Sophia Von Syren is turning 42 and has gathered all her friends to bring you a whimsical evening of cheeky burlesque performances that will leave you on a sugar high! Our ALL STAR cast includes some of Cape Town's finest performers as well as 2 up and coming burlesque starlets.

Sophia Von Syren has been producing burlesque shows for 5 years. She is committed to bring premiere burlesque entertainment to audiences through high production quality and through incorporating different genres of burlesque in her shows. She aspires to capture the burlesque revue as it was in the golden age of burlesque (1950s USA) and bring to the stage spectacles no short of theatrical extravaganzas.

Our very first production "Swingin' from the Chandeliers" was sold-out, acclaimed success and a benchmark in our industry. I aim to continue dazzling the audience and involving my community through collaborative effort and inviting performers across the board and provide a safe, creative and nurturing space for all performers.

This show includes some of the top names in the local burlesque scene and is a must see!

Audience Responses

Absolutely fantabulous show! What a treat :)

Call me fussy, but I think my expectation exceeded the show. The outfits were nice, although I wish the ladies show cased a bit more talent. The choreography was a bit bland. If that's what you call burlesque, then I'm slightly disappointed. Only 4 acts were semi enjoyable.

I love how intimate the show is - the smaller space, the way the dancers interacted with the crowd. They looked like they were just having the best time ever.

It was my first time at a burlesque performance so I didn't know what to expect...I was very impressed by the show. The performers were likable and seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as us members of the audience were enjoying them and the show. I will definitely be back to see another show.

That a show like this takes place is fabulous. It is always wonderful to see performers who show courage in their performance and are self-expressed, and it's the kind of performance(s) that we need more of, as tackling conversations about our bodies and sexuality are so important. Whilst this was not necessarily the intention of the show - that it was a birthday celebration, there is no reason to have fun AND deliver a well intended message. That said, what was missing in taking my rating to a 5, is I think more could have been done to elevate it. The stage for example could possible have been more intimately decorated. I was also surprised that the cast were surprised by how responsive the audience was to them, which says to me, their is room to think about the audience participation differently. As a performance coach, it didn't strike me, that there was a collective focus on the impact on the audience, but whatever each individual brought. "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts." This is cutting edge theatre, and I think these women are selling themselves a bit short in how they can impact people. Burlesque performers could all be professional if they wanted to - they have much to offer.
